Shariatpur’s Padma Bridge South Police Station has arrested Jewel Hawlader, who was accused of extortion in the Naodoba area of Jazira Upazila.
He was arrested during a police raid on Saturday (March 7) at around 7:30 PM.
The arrested Jewel Hawlader is the son of Miraj Hawlader from the Kalu Bepari Kandi area of Naodoba.
Earlier, a video of him collecting money from vehicles went viral on social media. In the video, when questioned, he was heard saying, “This is not Shibchar, this is Shariatpur.” Later, the video was published on the local Facebook page “Jazira Times.”
After the video was published, it sparked widespread discussion and criticism in the area. Following this, the Padma Bridge South Police conducted a raid and arrested him.
