A youth has been arrested with a huge quantity of drugs in a drive by the District Detective Branch (DB) police in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura. The arrested accused is named Akash Sheikh (22). He is the son of the deceased Bakkar Sheikh of Bararia village in Mohammadpur upazila. According to DB sources, a drive was conducted in the Dhovail Bazar area under Mohammadpur police station on Friday (January 2, 2026) afternoon based on a secret information.
At that time, when the DB police sensed the presence of a person, he tried to escape and was arrested. Later, 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from him after a body search. According to the information given by the accused during subsequent interrogation, a drive was conducted at his rented house in Kanainagar area of Mohammadpur police station.
Another 445 pieces of Yaba tablets and 700 milliliters of foreign liquor were recovered from under the bed mattress. Of the recovered drugs, a total of 1,445 pieces of Yaba tablets weigh about 144.5 grams. The estimated market value of these Yaba tablets is about 5 lakh 78 thousand taka. In addition, the estimated value of the recovered foreign liquor is 4 thousand taka, according to the police. DB police said that during the initial interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to being involved in the sale of Yaba tablets and foreign liquor in different areas of Magura district for a long time.
A case has been filed at Mohammadpur Police Station under the relevant section of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 in this incident. The arrested accused has been sent to court.
