‘Debate Competition-2026’ was celebrated in Shariatpur on the occasion of its founding anniversary
The Shariatpur district branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir organized this competition at the Dingamanik School ground in the district last Sunday (February 08).
The event was filled with the participation of students from various educational institutions in the battle of merit. Majid Zarina Foundation School and College won the honor of becoming the champion by defeating Naria Biharilal Government High School in the final round of the competition.
The theme of this year’s debate competition was – ❝The leadership of the youth will play a major role in building a new Bangladesh❞.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Vascular Surgery of Ibn Sina Medical College Dr. AKM Ziaul Haque was present as the chief guest at the event. He shed light on the multifaceted definition of leadership in his speech.
The chief guest said, “There are different definitions of leadership. Political leadership alone does not build a country; different leadership in all fields including social welfare, economy, business, commerce, knowledge and science is needed to build a country. It is possible to build a beautiful Bangladesh with the partnership of young leadership and the wisdom of the elders.”
The event was attended as special guests by Sakhawat Kawsar, President of Chhatrashibir Shariatpur District Branch, Asif Imam, GS of Dhaka University Students’ Union (DUCSU) Freedom Fighter Ziaur Rahman Hall Sangsad, and Ariful Islam, GS of Rajshahi University Students’ Union (RAKSU) Motihar Hall Sangsad.
Mehedi Hasan Nirab, former director of Shariatpur Debating Society, current director Zahir Raihan, and Yusuf Ahmed, member of Rajshahi University Debate Club, served as judges to ensure the smooth conduct of the competition. The entire event was moderated by Abrar Sabid Ahmad and conducted by Rabiul Muhammad Rizon. It is worth noting that Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, which started its journey from the Central Jama Masjid of Dhaka University on February 6, 1977, is currently in its 49th year. At the end of this debate competition organized to mark its founding anniversary, the winners and participating students were awarded crests, medals and valuable books as gifts.
