India today announced it will reopen its embassy in Kabul four years after shutting down the mission following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
The announcement was made by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during talks with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi this morning.
This is the first time a Taliban foreign minister is visiting India.
Jaishankar told Muttaqi, “Your visit marks an important step in advancing India-Afghanistan ties. As a well-wisher of the Afghan people, India has a deep interest in your development. Today, I reaffirm that our long-standing partnership, which has seen so many Indian projects in Afghanistan stands renewed.”
