RAB has arrested Maruf Khan, the main accused in the controversial rape case that took place in the forest division area of ​​Shariatpur.

He was arrested from the Narsinghpur area under Fatulla police station in Narayanganj district at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday (December 17).

The arrested Maruf Khan is the son of Razzak Khan, a resident of the South Madhyapara area of ​​Shariatpur Municipality.

According to the case report, a married woman, a mother of two, went to Madaripur with her extramarital lover on Tuesday (December 9). After visiting Madaripur, when they reached the forest department on foot from the Manohar intersection in Shariatpur at around 5:30 pm, some unknown persons beat them up and took them inside the forest department. There, the victim was filmed naked and videotaped, and it is alleged that Maruf Khan and others raped her against her will. Later, the victims were asked to delete the recorded video and Tk 10,000 was demanded from them. At one stage, when their physical condition deteriorated, two men came and left them on the main road. Later, locals rescued them and admitted them to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.

When the incident spread on social media, it created a huge stir. The next day, the victim filed a case at the Palong Model Police Station. In view of the police’s request to arrest the absconding accused, considering the importance of the case, RAB-8 started activities to arrest the accused. In continuation of this, RAB-8 (Madaripur) and RAB-11 (Narayanganj) conducted a joint operation based on secret information and arrested Maruf Khan.

In this regard, RAB-8 Madaripur Company Commander Police Superintendent Mir Monir Hossain said, “The accused has been handed over to Palong Model Police Station for legal action against him. We always work to unravel the mysteries of sensational cases including clueless murder cases and arrest the accused. Such activities will continue in the future as well.”
