A mother from Uttar Baiksha area of Jajira Municipality in Shariatpur has set a remarkable example of love and sacrifice on World Mother’s Day by donating one of her kidneys to save her son, Nasim Jahan Akash, who had been suffering from severe kidney complications for a long time. The emotional act of selflessness has created a heartfelt atmosphere in the locality.
According to family sources, both of Akash’s kidneys failed around nine months ago. Since then, the family had been living in constant worry over his treatment and survival. After undergoing numerous medical tests and consultations, his mother, Nasima Sultana, finally decided to donate one of her own kidneys to save her son’s life. She is the head teacher of a government primary school.
Today, Sunday (May 10), on the occasion of World Mother’s Day, Akash is scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant operation in Dhaka. The surgery will be performed by renowned kidney transplant surgeon and urologist Professor Dr. Md. Kamrul Islam. He is the founder and managing director of the Center for Kidney Diseases and Urology Hospital, located in Shyamoli, Dhaka. He is widely appreciated across the country for providing kidney transplant services at low cost and, in many cases, free of charge. In recognition of his significant contribution to the healthcare sector, he was awarded the Independence Award in 2022.
Akash’s elder sister, Brishti, expressed her emotions by saying, “On Mother’s Day, my mother is giving the greatest gift in the world. She is donating her own kidney to save her child’s life. I request everyone to pray for my mother and my brother.”
The mother’s immense sacrifice and unconditional love for her child have also sparked widespread discussion on social media. Many people are saying that there is nothing greater than a mother’s love, and this incident on World Mother’s Day has once again reminded everyone of that timeless truth.
