According to the Holy Quran, it can be any night of Ramadan. In the Hadith, this Night is Generally Considered to be on the 21st, 23rd, 25th and 27th of Ramadan and the last 10 days, in which Muslims worship God at night and ask for forgiveness from God for their sins.
Due to the lack of a definite identification of this night, faithful Muslims also do I’tikaf for ten consecutive days, that is, stay in the mosque for ten days continuously. I’tikaf is an Arabic word, which means to stop and restrain oneself. In the terminology of Islamic Sharia, I’tikaf means staying in the Mosque for the purpose of worship in the last Ashra (ten days) of Ramadan.
If someone from a locality, village or city does I’tikaf, then it is done on behalf of everyone, due to dense population, it is considered necessary for someone from the locality to do it. The night of Shab-e-Qadr, mentioned in the Holy Quran, is believed by the Muslim community to occur in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
