His father’s name was Hyder Ali and mother’s name was Fakhrunnisa. On 4 May 1799, at the age of 48, Tipu was martyred in Srirangapatna, Karnataka, fighting the British till his last breath. History sees Tipu Sultan not only as a capable ruler and warrior, but he was also a scholar. Impressed by his bravery, his father Hyder Ali awarded him the title of Sher-e-Mysore.Tipu Sultan died on 4 May 1799 while defending Srirangapatna while fighting the British. Tipu Sultan is considered the world’s first missile man. On this occasion, the speakers said that Tipu Sultan’s rockets are kept in the famous Science Museum of London. These rockets were taken away by the British in the end of the 18th century.
After Tipu lost many wars, the Marathas and Nizam signed a treaty with the British. In such a situation, Tipu also proposed a treaty to the British. However, the British had also realized Tipu’s power, so secretly they also wanted a treaty. Talks between the two sides took place in March 1784 and as a result of this the ‘Treaty of Mangalore’ was concluded. Tipu won the first war against the British at the age of 18. ‘Palakkad Fort’ is also famous as ‘Tipu’s Fort’. It is located in the central part of Palakkad town. It was built in 1766. This fort is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. Tipu Sultan used to call himself Nagarik Tipu. Tipu Sultan of Mysore used to wear a wonderful Ring inscribed with the name of Ram. Tipu had made many such inventions in his time, which made his army strong. He also gets the credit for using light-grade rockets for the first time in the army. Tipu Sultan did an experiment during his rule, which gives him a strong place in history. Tipu Sultan used small rockets during the war. It was the first experiment of its kind in the world, so he is also called the world’s first missile man. Extensive use of rocket technology in the army
During the period of expansion of the kingdom in the south, Tipu Sultan and his father used rocket technology extensively in the war. The rockets were not very effective in causing damage to the enemy army but they definitely caused panic. The rockets used by Tipu’s army in that era were small and extremely lethal. An iron pipe was used to launch these rockets. These rockets were capable of hitting up to 2 kilometers.According to historians, the use of these rockets in the battle of Pollilur changed the whole game. Tipu’s army benefited a lot from this. When he used rockets in the battle of Pollilur against the British, they were surprised. He had used the same rocket technology against Emperor Napoleon. On this occasion, the speakers said that former President of India and father of the missile program APJ Abdul Kalam had written in his book ‘Wings of Fire’ that I saw some rockets of Tipu Sultan in the Science Museum of London. These were among those rockets that the British had taken with them. When Tipu Sultan’s army used gunpowder rockets in the war against the British, he was surprised. This caused a lot of damage to the British army. He could not even imagine that the army of an Indian king would also have this technology. India’s great space scientist and former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam further wrote in the book that he had seen a painting of Tipu’s army with rockets in a NASA center. Kalam writes, “I felt that on the other side of the earth, the first rockets used in war and the foresight of the Sultan who used them were being celebrated. Whereas in our country people either do not know this or do not pay attention to it.” On this occasion, the speakers said that the birth anniversary of India’s great freedom fighter Tipu Sultan is being celebrated by Satyagraha Research Foundation, Mother Tahira Charitable Trust and various social organizations from 10 November 2024 to 1 December 2024.
