The World Conference for the Advancement of Children in Geneva, Switzerland declared 01 June as International Children’s Day in 1925.
After the conference, some governments around the world designated this day as Children’s Day to highlight children’s issues. Different countries used the date most relevant to their culture.
The date of 01 June is used by many ex-Soviet countries because the ‘International Day for the Protection of Children’ was established on 01 June 1950 in Moscow after the Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation which took place in 1949. With the creation of World Children’s Day, the Member States of the United Nations recognized the protection of children, regardless of race, color, sex, religion and national or social origin, the right to affection, love, understanding, adequate food, medical care, free education, protection against all forms of exploitation and growing up in an atmosphere of universal peace and brotherhood. On this occasion, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad, Dr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, Dr. Amit Kumar Lohia, Dr. Amanul Haque and Dr. Shahnawaz Ali jointly said that many countries have established Children’s Day. Some countries celebrate Children’s Day on 20 November as Universal Children’s Day. The day was established by the United Nations in 1954 and aims to promote the welfare of children around the world. On this occasion, the speakers said that due to the lockdown during the Corona transition period, there has been a huge increase in domestic violence against children and girls. The figures that have come out in the surveys and research conducted by Satyagraha Research Foundation, Kailash Satyarthi Foundation, Bachpan Bachao Andolan and various social organizations are disturbing. Children are not safe in their own homes. To prevent domestic violence against children and girls, there is a need to create awareness programs at social and government level and to make parents aware at national and international level, so that domestic violence against children can be stopped. For this, all the voluntary organizations of the world including Satyagraha Research Foundation, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Kailash Satyarthi Foundation are committed. Children are being affected the most in West Asian countries and many war-torn countries of the world. It is the responsibility of the United States and this fraternity to establish permanent peace in war-torn countries and provide the coming generation the security it deserves.
