Today on 3 July 2025, A Grand programme was organized on the Independence Day of Belarus in the auditorium Satyagraha Bhawan of Satyagraha Research Foundation. In which representatives of various social organizations, intellectuals and students participated. On this occasion, International Peace Ambassador cum General Secretary Satyagraha Research Foundation Dr. Ajaz Ahmad, Dr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, Senior Journalist cum Founder Mother Tahira Charitable Trust Dr. Amanul Haque, Dr. Shahnawaz Ali, Amit Kumar Lohia, Social Activist Navindu Chaturvedi jointly paid tribute to the immortal martyrs and freedom fighters of Belarus and said that every year on July 3, Belarus celebrates its Independence Day. In Belarus, the same happened in 1990 when the Supreme Council of Belarus declared the country a sovereign nation independent from the USSR on 27 July 1990. This date was celebrated as the Independence Day of Belarus until 1996.
In 1996, the country’s first president Alexander Lukashenko oversaw a referendum in which about 90% of the votes were given on the Independence Day of Belarus. When Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, Belarus was one of the first to be attacked. On 24 June, Minsk was hit by heavy artillery shelling and air strikes from about 150 bombers.
Despite resistance from local fighters, the Germans occupied Minsk on 28 June 1941. Not accepting the occupation, the residents launched a resistance movement that lasted for 1,100 days. The efforts of the citizens helped the armies of the 1st and 3rd Belarusian fronts with the support of the partisans to liberate the Belarusian capital from the invaders on 3 July 1944.
Belarus paid a heavy price for independence. One third of the population died during the war.
