The accident occurred on the Shariatpur-Dhaka highway near Babukhar Bridge on the border of Shibchar-Jazira police station at around 1 pm on Tuesday (April 1).
Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ratan Sheikh confirmed the matter.
The deceased are Hridoy Dhali, son of Babul Dhali of Kadam Dhali Kandi area of Naodoba union in Jajira upazila, and Mithun Talukder, son of Shahjahan Talukder, a resident of Shibchar police station in Madaripur. The other two are Mohammad Oli, son of UP member Sekan Khan of Sardar Kandi area of Joynagar union in Jajira upazila, and Ramzan Sardar, son of Munju Sardar of the same area.
In addition, two more people were seriously injured in the accident. The injured have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
According to police and local sources, three motorcycles collided head-on in the Babukhar Bridge area on the way from Naodoba bus stand in the southern area of Padma Bridge to Kazirhat. Two youths died on the spot and four others were seriously injured. Locals rescued the four injured and took them to the hospital, where two more died. The remaining two injured are undergoing treatment and their identities have not been released.
When asked about this, Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ratan Sheikh told The Daily Global Nation that four youths were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles. Two others have also been taken to the hospital in critical condition. Legal action will be taken if anyone complains about this.
