A dispute over seating at a tea stall in Jajira Upazila of Shariatpur turned violent, with repeated clashes between two rival groups and multiple crude bomb explosions. Two people, identified as Sonamia Madbor (39) and Billal Khan (39), sustained serious injuries in the explosions.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (14 July) between approximately 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Ruhul Amin Khan’s tea stall, located on the bank of the Small Mulna River in Mulna Union under Jajira Upazila.

According to local residents and police sources, Sonamia Madbor and several members of the Malek Bepari group had gone to the tea stall for tea when members of the Faruk Khalifa group allegedly attempted to force them to leave. The confrontation quickly escalated into a heated argument, creating tension between the two groups. At one stage, both sides reportedly armed themselves with locally made weapons and engaged in a violent clash.

Eyewitnesses said the area turned into a battlefield as around 20 to 25 crude bombs were detonated, spreading panic among local residents.

Sonamia Madbor, son of Patai Madbor of Boalia, and Billal Khan, son of tea stall owner Ruhul Amin Khan, suffered serious injuries from the crude bomb blasts. Family members and local residents rescued them and rushed them to Jajira Upazila Health Complex. After providing primary treatment, the attending physician admitted both victims to the hospital.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nadim Mahmud of Jajira Police Station, accompanied by a police team, rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saleh Ahmed of Jajira Police Station said additional police personnel have been deployed in the area, where tensions remain high. He added that a drive is underway to arrest those involved in the incident, and preparations are being made to file a case.
