A 70-year-old man named Mannan Sardar was killed in a clash between two rival groups in Jajira, Shariatpur, following a cocktail explosion. At least 10 people were injured in the incident. Among the injured, one person suffered severe damage to his hand.
The incident took place on Monday (August 10) evening in the Char Kandhi area of Char Dhupur, Senarchar Union, in Jajira Upazila.
The deceased, Mannan Sardar, was the son of the late Ali Uddin Sardar of the Char Dhupur Char Kandhi area under Senarchar Union.
According to local residents and police sources, a dispute had been ongoing over establishing local dominance between Rezaul Shikdar of the Laukhola area and his supporters and Tamiz Khan and his supporters. As a result of the longstanding dispute, supporters of both sides became involved in a clash in the Laukhola area on Monday evening. Several cocktail explosions occurred during the clash.
At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the explosions. Mannan Sardar was critically injured and was taken to Jajira Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.
Meanwhile, Ripon Molla, a supporter of Tamiz Khan, was seriously injured in a hand-bomb explosion. His hand was severely damaged, and after receiving initial treatment, he was referred to Dhaka for advanced medical care.
Dr. Roman Badsha, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Jajira, said, “Two people were brought to the hospital with injuries caused by bomb explosions. One of them suffered severe damage to his hand. He was given initial treatment and referred to Dhaka. The other person was examined and declared dead.”
Following the incident, additional police personnel have been deployed in the area.
Muhammad Mahiuuddin Miraj, Additional Superintendent of Police (Naria Circle), said, “We have received information that one person was killed in a clash between two groups in Jajira. Additional police have been sent to the scene. Necessary legal action will be taken in connection with the incident
