The body of Tuhin Sardar (32), who had been missing for a day, was recovered from a roadside pond in Jajira Upazila of Shariatpur. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over his family and relatives.
At around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (July 18), local residents spotted a body floating in a roadside pond in Char Dhupuria Mollakandi village under Senarchar Union and informed the police. Officers from Jajira Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The deceased, Tuhin Sardar, was the son of the late Karim Sardar of the same village. He was the father of one child. According to local residents, he had been suffering from epilepsy for a long time.
Family members said that Tuhin left home at around 10:00 a.m. on Friday and did not return. They searched for him at relatives’ homes and other possible locations but were unable to find any trace of him.
At around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, locals noticed a body floating in a roadside pond in the Senarchar area and alerted the police. After recovering the body, family members identified it as that of Tuhin Sardar.
Local residents said that Tuhin had previously been found unconscious in the Joynagar area of the upazila. Since then, his family had remained concerned about his health.
Local resident Suruj Molla said, “Tuhin had been missing since yesterday morning. Today, when people saw a body floating in the pond, everyone rushed to the scene. The police later recovered the body. Such a death is truly heartbreaking.”
Jajira Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saleh Ahmad said, “After receiving the information, police recovered the body from the scene. An inquest report has been prepared. The body will be sent to the Shariatpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Necessary legal action will be taken following the investigation.”
