Police at Padma Bridge South Police Station have arrested a suspected professional drug dealer with 83 yaba tablets during a special operation based on a tip-off.

The suspect, identified as Hannan Sheikh, was arrested at around 1:25 am on Monday, July 27, from the Ishaq Madbar Kandi area of Purba Naodoba Union. Hannan Sheikh is the son of the late Mannan Sheikh and a resident of the same area. Police said that 12 drug-related cases had previously been filed against him at different police stations.

According to police, a patrol team from Padma Bridge South Police Station conducted an anti-drug operation in the Ishaq Madbar Kandi area. At one point, Hannan Sheikh was detained from a dirt road in front of the house of Moslem Mridha after police noticed his suspicious movements.

Later, police searched a plastic container he was carrying and recovered 83 yaba tablets from it.

Police said the recovered yaba tablets weighed approximately 8.3 grams and had an estimated market value of Tk 24,900.

A case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act at Padma Bridge South Police Station. The arrested suspect was subsequently sent to jail through the court on Monday.

Speaking about the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge South Police Station, Md. Abdus Salam, said, “Police are conducting regular operations to implement the zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Drug dealers will not be spared under any circumstances. Such operations will continue and be intensified in the future to eliminate drugs from society.”
