Dainik Cumillar Alo’s 20th founding anniversary celebrated

Celebrating two decades of journey through discussion meeting, exchange of greetings and cake cutting

 

The 20th founding anniversary of Comilla’s popular daily “Dainik Cumillar Alo” was celebrated in a festive atmosphere. The day was celebrated through a discussion meeting, exchange of greetings and cake cutting held at the Kabi Nazrul Institute auditorium in Comilla city on Friday (October 31) afternoon.

 

The event was presided over by Md. Jasim Uddin Kanak, editor and publisher of Dainik Cumillar Alo.

 

The speakers at the discussion said, “Comillar Alo has already earned the trust of its readers by fearlessly publishing news against injustice on the side of truth and justice. The newspaper has been subjected to various adversities and persecutions due to its steadfastness in the path of justice. Fear, greed or pressure – nothing could stop the editor of this newspaper from publishing the truth.”

 

The speakers also mentioned that during the previous government’s tenure, the publication of Dainik Comillar Alo was stopped and the editor had to be unjustly imprisoned. Even then, the newspaper has stood firm on the path of truth and justice and raised the voice of the people.

 

Veteran journalist and former president of Comilla Press Club, freedom fighter Zahirul Haque Dulal said in his speech, “Only those involved in it know how difficult it is to sustain a newspaper. When a journalist stands in the dock of the court just for publishing news, the question arises – where were the press clubs then? Those who do wrong are still roaming around in Birdarpa. We have to unite now, otherwise we will all have to suffer the consequences.”

 

The event featured the memories and achievements of the 20-year journey of Dainik Comillar Alo—Comilla Press Club General Secretary Zahid Hasan, Debidwar Upazila Press Club Founder and President Atiqur Rahman Bashar, Udichi Comilla District Branch President Sheikh Farid Ahmed, Kalyan Party Comilla’s representative Shahidur Rahman Tamanna, Comilla Bachao Andolon’s general secretary Nasir Uddin, Comilla Press Club’s organizing secretary and Dainik Ajker Comilla’s editor Itiaz Ahmed Jitu, Daulatpur Nazrul Niketan member secretary Mizanur Rahman, Journalist Kalyan Parishad Comilla’s general secretary Monir Hossain, Bangladesh Betar Comilla’s correspondent Abu Sufian, Nawab Faizunnesa Foundation’s general secretary Azad Sarkar Liton, Navana Hospital’s MD, columnist and writer Abdul Awal Sarkar, and others.

 

Also present at the event were – Executive Editor of Daily Cumillar Alo Shaheen Alam, News Editor Tohidul Islam, Associate News Editor Mamunur Rashid, Staff Reporter Monir Mosharraf, AK Azad, Mohammad Ali, Salamat Ullah, Rafiqul Islam, Daily Bhorer Suryajday Correspondent Md. Rajib Sarkar, along with readers, advertisers and well-wishers of the newspaper.

After the discussion meeting, the members of the Cumillar Alo family and guests wished for the newspaper’s future success and prosperity. Later, the ceremony of the newspaper’s 20th founding anniversary was completed by cutting a cake.
