Jahangirnagar University branch Chhatra Dal’s human chain protesting the gang rape of a BUP student in Savar and demanding the arrest and speedy trial of the rapists.

The human chain program was held at the foot of the university’s central Shaheed Minar on Sunday (October 19) at 4 pm.

At this time, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were seen sitting with posters, festoons and placards with the words “We Condemn Rape”, “We must ensure punishment for the rapist as soon as possible”, “We want punishment for the rapist”, “Ensure women’s safety”, “Hang the rapist”, “Rappers can never be human beings”.

At this time, branch Chhatra Dal convener Zahir Uddin Babar said that a sit-in program has been organized to protest the gang rape of a BUP student in Savar today. During the past 17 years of fascist rule, a culture of impunity was created in the country, which resulted in increased violence, fights, murders and violence against women.

He also said that the gang rape of a housewife at MC College in Sylhet, the murder of Tonu in Comilla Cantonment and the rape of Chhatra League leaders Manik and Mustafiz at Jahangirnagar University were mentioned, for which no fair trial was conducted. Although the common people expected an improvement in the law and order situation and an end to impunity from the interim government formed after the July uprising, they did not see it implemented. Due to impunity, criminals are repeatedly repeating such heinous incidents, the latest example of which is the gang rape of a BUP student in Savar. I demand a fair investigation into this incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits.

Humayun Habib Hiron, joint convener of the JU branch of the Chhatra Dal, said that 17,000 incidents of violence and rape against women and children have occurred in Bangladesh from 2024 to June 2025. In 2025 alone, more than 25 cases of organized rape have been recorded in the country. If there had been proper trial, impartial investigation and a strict role of law enforcement agencies in all these incidents, such gang rapes would not have happened and the victims would have been brought to justice.

SM Faisal, another joint convener of the JU branch of the Chhatra Dal, said that it has not yet been possible to establish a good environment, establish the rule of law and strengthen the judiciary in Bangladesh. Rape incidents are happening constantly due to the lack of proper implementation of the law. We strongly condemn and protest against the heinous incident like the gang rape that took place in the BUP next to the campus. On behalf of the Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal Jahangirnagar University branch, we demand the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and bringing them under the law for speedy trial and expediting the justice process.

Sheikh Sadi, who is contesting for the post of VP of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in JKSU, said,
Not only Chhatra Dal, but all students of the university are concerned as a student from Jahangirnagar University was gang-raped and all students will be united against such heinous acts as in the past.
